Privacy

RoadmapPlus does not use your personally identifiable information. The only personally identifiable data we keep is your email you supplied to us if you subscribed to our newsletter. Our web host's analytics systems also store your IP address temporarily, but that cannot link that to you.

We will not share, distribute or sell data you have supplied to us or data within the web analytics tools. As developers of commerical, paid (not free) applications, we are not in the business of selling your personal information.

Like many websites today, we review website visitor usage. Although your IP is temporarily stored externally by the web analytics tools, we do not utilise that data. Additionally, from AEST 24 May 2018, we switched on the IP Anonymization feature of Google Analytics, which prevents your IP from being stored. Google Analytics data storage has also been limited to the minimum time offered by Google, being 14 months. Finally, we manually delete the previous month's data from our web host's system at the beginning of each month.

The purpose and usage of web analytics data is to gauge growth, identify markets, and improve our content, products and services. At most, a total number of website hits, page views, clickthroughs, downloads or referrers will ever be provided to a direct advertiser on our website. These numbers will be aggregated as a total number for the page, document or link, sometimes by country, for a specific date range. Analyses are always performed on aggregated data, commonly at country level.

Since 24 May 2018 AEST (one day prior to the effect of the GDPR), we have complied with the cookie requirements as best as possible and as understood and determined by ourselves, available resources and ongoing developments. On 9 October 2019 AEST, as a proactive response to recent GDPR interpretation in Europe regarding acceptance and agreement, we completely removed any implied acceptance of cookies. On 25 February 2020 AEST as another response to ongoing interpretations, we have included an express 'Decline' option. As such, the following information was updated on 25 February 2020 AEST to explain the instances in which cookies are used on this website:

  1. To prevent the red cookie notice appearing over the screen, selecting either "Accept" or "Decline" will save a Roadmap+ cookie to your computer or device to tell the browser that you have clicked "Accept" or "Decline" and to stop showing you the red cookie notice box. The 24-hour period was chosen to ensure you are not bombarded with the cookies notice with each visit over a day. The cookie is used for no other purpose.
  2. If you choose to "Decline", only* the cookie to detect you have made a choice is saved so that, as noted in point 1 above, your browser can hide the red cookie notice box for approximately one day.
  3. If you choose to press "Accept", in addition to the Roadmap+ cookie that notes your selection, Google Analytics will immediately create cookies on your computer or device that tracks your visits. We have manually changed Google's default cookie storage period from two years to approximately 24 hours. This does not mean that your visits will be removed from Google data (see third paragraph above regarding the 14-month period).
  4. Embedded videos are clearly marked in text on the pages that link to them, always in the title of the article-video page being linked to or, if there is an image, it may also be in that image. Although we currently post videos on YouTube, we embed the videos in article pages in "Privacy-Enhanced Mode". This prevents cookies being activated when you land on the page or play a YouTube video on our website. If leave our website and go to YouTube to watch a Roadmap+ video or watch a Roadmap+ video on another website, it is likely that cookies will be saved to your computer or device. This is beyond our control. We will closely monitor the "Privacy-Enhanced Mode" in the event that it changes.
  5. *If you subscribe to our newsletter, after you hit the "Subscribe" button there will be a cookie created as part of MailChimp's subscription process (our use of the third-party email tool is explained further below). It will not persist longer than the session, which in this instance is likely to be when you leave the subscription page, but it could be after you leave the website or close the browser.

Please note, the red cookie notice will appear even if you have turned off tracking in your browser. The appearance of the notice means you haven't selected "Accept" or "Decline" in last 24 hours. If you are concerned with tracking and privacy in general on this or any other website, the following websites may be useful in describing how to browse any website privately:

It is always good practice to ensure your browser clears all history, including cookies, when you close it. Note that on mobile devices, after turning on privacy, you will also need to ensure the browser is not running in the background. See also Android and iOS.

The use of social media on our site is limited to links to our social media pages at the top of each page. Share links are intentionally absent to reduce the likelihood of tracking. However, if you would like to share our content as a page in its entirety, you may do so without permission by copying the URL of the page you wish to share, then posting the URL to the social media platform of your choice. Please refer to the Copyright section on this page for information on sharing images, text, videos and sounds.

Our newsletter is managed using the popular third-party email marketing tool, MailChimp. In the event your subscription is affected by the tool's downtime, we are happy to work with you to resolve this. If you believe your attempt to subscribe or unsubscribe was unsuccessful, please contact us so that we can manually add or remove you from the email list. You might also be interested in subscribing to our RSS feed if you prefer not signing up with an email address.

We appreciate general concerns about privacy and aim to be transparent regarding the use of user-related data. Due to internal and external factors, the terms on this page may change over time. If you have any concerns regarding how we treat your data or website visits or wish to obtain the data we have about you, please feel free to get in touch with us or email our Data Protection Officer. Please allow 24-72 hours for a reply.
