Wheatgrass shots

Wheatgrass shots

Why

Juicers are expensive and can be a pain to clean. Fresh juices are overpriced or even hard to find, particularly if you're after the cold-pressed variety. Mixing yourself up a powdered wheatgrass shot on the other hand is a quick, easy and cost-effective way to increase recommended intakes and potentially boost your immune system.

Studies on the benefits of drinking small doses of wheatgrass vary, so while it won't replace a glassful of juice or a healthy diet, we do know it contains various vitamins and minerals, such as A, C, E and magnesium.

How

Most health food stores and supermarkets now stock wheatgrass powder, but it's a good idea to do some research or talk to a professional about reputable brands. Ideally it should be certified organic and pure.

The simplest way to consume wheatgrass is by adding water to the powder and mixing it until it has completely diluted. If you find the taste unbearable at first, some find adding the powder to orange or pineapple juice can help.

Taking it first thing in the morning, along with a water or lemon juice, is a great way to start the day off to a healthful tune, but any time of day is fine.
